About OPHCC

We are dedicated community members, elected officials, grassroots organizers, businesses, and non-profits working together to develop local solutions.

Connect. Partner. Inspire.

Forming partnerships and networks that establish healthy choices as the standard in our community.

The Olympic Peninsula Healthy Community Coalition works to make our community a healthier place to live, learn, work, and play.

Olympic Peninsula Healthy Community Coalition (OPHCC) began as a grassroots project in 2015 between the Olympic Community View Foundation (OCVF) and the Sequim Food Bank with the goal of evaluating and improving the Food Bank’s effectiveness. The OCVF funded a grant request by the Food Bank to survey its users and meet with community stakeholders to determine whether there was energy to convene to work on communal concerns and share resources.

Community leaders were very interested in working together and our first meeting was held in April of 2015. It was widely known that the Olympic Peninsula had a higher than usual rate of premature death and chronic disease that could be better managed or prevented through lifestyle changes such as healthy diet and exercise. The handful of gathered community representatives began to develop project ideas to integrate their missions and combine their resources to help the Sequim-Dungeness Valley become a healthier place to live.

As a step toward future policy and environmental change in our community supporting healthy eating and active lifestyles, the 5210 initiative was launched as our first big step in helping the community. Partnership in the Coalition continues to grow as we build energy, ideas and commitment to change.

Over the last several years, our Coalition has grown to more than 50 partner organizations throughout Clallam County.

Please consider joining with us! Our monthly meetings are at 1:00 PM on the third Wednesday of every month. Learn more about our meetings here.
